Forbes Riley + Home Shopping + Perfect Pitch

2018-05-21T03:28:09-04:00Monday, May 21, 2018|

My home for more than 28 years - live home shopping around the world.  One of the secets is that you MUST have the Perfect Pitch! How to Develop Your Perfect Pitch Okay - you've invented, created or licensed the perfect product - now how do you market and make money from it? First contacting me is a great idea -- hint, hint! But when the moment arises to go to the network you will only have a few minutes to win over the buyers. Don’t waste their time with details about why you came up with the product idea. Instead, focus on the selling points, the financial aspects, and keep your pitch short and sweet. Be considerate of the buyer’s limited time; don’t waste minutes with “cutesy stuff" and PLEASE don’t tell a buyer that your product is the best thing in the world and that they will make billions of dollars with it. They hear this everyday! Simply get to the point with solid benefits and features. Start with how your product will benefit their pocketbook. Retail buyers are most concerned about their bottom line – it’s how they keep their bosses happy. Just as you are hoping to make [...]

Overcome to $uccess

2018-09-25T21:54:14-04:00Sunday, March 11, 2018|

Overcome to $uccess By Forbes Riley You are the sum of the obstacles you overcome: If you are lucky to live long enough, you're likely to go through some pretty bad stuff, whether it's the death of loved ones, losing all of your money or possessions, sickness and injuries, and other traumatic events. At best, you find that you come out of it—you've lived through some horrible circumstances or even seemingly improbable near-death experiences, and you discover yourself on the other side of it. You also realize that some people don't make it through similar circumstances, literally, by not escaping death or succumbing to suicide, but here you are, you made it through. The powerful thing about living through the horrible times isn't just in the survival. I have learned that when you come through a personal tragedy, you come through different. Life is never about what happens to you; instead it is about how you choose to handle the hand you've been dealt. Under the same circumstances handed to two different people, one shuts down, wallows in self-pity, succumbs to fear, and uses their hardships as an excuse, while the other takes the challenge head-on, gets up, pushes [...]

My Mentor College Professor David Richman

2017-12-02T15:17:04-05:00Tuesday, November 28, 2017|

Prof. David Richman When I first got to Los Angeles I had stars in my eyes.  Even though I never got the lead in any of the high school plays, I had been given faith, by a man with no sight.  My college professor David Richman.  Growing up on Long Island I had a bad overbite and was subjected to full silver railroad braces for 8 years (yes, from age 8 to 16).  I had an odd crooked nose from a mis-encounter with a baseball bat, my hair was beyond frizzy and I was, thanks to the dawn of fast food and frozen tv dinners, about 40 pounds overweight. By the time I got to college the nose had been fixed, the braces removed, I learned to blow-dry my hair “Marcia Brady” straight but I still battled with the weight.  No, actually I battled with the stigma of being an “ugly girl with no talent and a big butt” as one of the kids bullying always resonated in my brain.  My self-talent was negative even though I had a burning desire and dream of being on stage as an actress and often I would sabotage myself before I even [...]

David Cassidy Partridge Family

2017-11-18T20:56:27-05:00Saturday, November 18, 2017|

I'm so sad -- he was my first CRUSH! David Cassidy, the wildly popular '70s heartthrob who shot to fame when he starred and sang in TV's "The Partridge Family," is in critical condition with organ failure. Cassidy is being treated at a Fort Lauderdale, Florida, area hospital...  David Cassidy in 1971 "He is conscious and surrounded by family and friends, nothing is imminent and we are taking it day by day," Geffen said. She did not say what caused the organ failure. Cassidy, 67, told People magazine earlier this year he was battling dementia. A '70s superstar "The Partridge Family," a sitcom about a mother and five children who formed a rock 'n' roll band, gave Cassidy a national audience for his music. Cassidy, who played Keith Partridge on the show, captured the spirit of 1970s youth. David Cassidy in 2009. His wispy voice and wholesome persona broke out from the small screen. At the time, his fan club reportedly was bigger than those of Elvis Presley and The Beatles. The singer toured the world singing his hit songs, such as "I Think I Love You," filling concert halls with screaming teenage girls.

Launching Forbes Factor Live

When we first purchased the building that was to become the Forbes Riley production studios it was a bit of a gamble and leap of faith into the unknown.   I had longed dreamed about creating a space where I could perform, or film, or hold classes but with the launch of our fitness company SpinGym my focus was split and then I was crazy raising twin toddlers. We purchased the building and began the buildout with the back half being the "studio" and the front half being office and the coolest conference room I could imagine - its round, white, with a wall painted as a white board.  It turned out better than I could imagined. Then what to do with it -- luckily I had some amazing girlfriends who came to my rescue - in particular were Daphne Street and Leslie Belcher.  Over lunch I outlined this dream I had to teach and coach and transform the lives of people (okay, specifically women) but I was open.  Within months of talking about this vision we created to completely unique and amazing programs.  The first was Forbes Factor - an interactive one day, life changing experience.  We had [...]

From the Heart

Every once in a while you just meet someone who dramatically changes your life. I met Forbes through a mutual Los Angeles acquaintance and we began to know each other a little better from Facebook and phone conversations. It was the phone call that I had with her a few weeks ago to interview her for this article, where the little fat food and bad exercise switch went off and the healthy habit switch went on. I called Forbes today to tell her that I was having trouble writing the article about her because I needed to go back and get quotes because about ½ way through the interview I stopped writing and just started listening to her intensely. After a two hour conversation, I realized I had like 2 pages of notes and was in trouble. I called today and she said, “I just got off the phone with someone telling me I changed their life forever.” I said, “Well, Forbes, it’s gonna be an even better day because I’m calling to tell you that too. First I need to tell you that I need better quotes from you from our conversation. But before I do that I need [...]

Movie Producer Brian Grazer loves SpinGym

2017-09-25T14:42:24-04:00Thursday, September 21, 2017|

I was lucky enough to run into Brian backstage in NYC at Fox & Friends.  He asked about SpinGym, tried it, loved it and even posted it to Twitter! He co-founded Imagine Entertainment in 1986, with Ron Howard. The films they produced have grossed over $13 billion. The movies include four for which Grazer was personally nominated for an Academy Award: Splash (1984), Apollo 13 (1995), A Beautiful Mind (2001), and Frost/Nixon (2008). His films and TV series have been nominated for 43 Academy Awards, and 131 Emmys. In 2002, Grazer won an Oscar for Best Picture for A Beautiful Mind (shared with Ron Howard). In 2007, he was named one of Time's "100 Most Influential People in the World". Grazer began his career as a producer developing television projects. While executive-producing TV pilots at Paramount Pictures in the early 1980s, he met current long-time friend and business partner Ron Howard. He produced his first feature-film, Night Shift, in 1982, directed by Howard. Grazer and Howard teamed up again for Splash in 1984, which Grazer produced and co-wrote. Splash earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay of 1984. In 1986, Grazer and Howard co-founded Imagine Entertainment, which became one of Hollywood's most prolific and successful production companies. Over the years, Grazer's films and TV shows have been nominated for a total of 43 Academy Awards, and 131 Emmys. At the same time, his movies [...]

Alaska Trip

2017-10-27T11:10:54-04:00Thursday, August 24, 2017|

I think everyone has that "Alaska Cruise" trip on their bucket list - I sure did and grateful I didn't wait until I was too old to really enjoy it!  Our journey with the twins was much more that the cruise.  As usual on a Riley adventure we needed to add MORE! So we arrive 7 days prior to the cruise and flew into Anchorage.  What a sight -- right out of the movies.  From their we set out to find a remote fishing venue and took a seaplane from Kodiak to Afognack Lodge -- trust me, the pictures are amazing but simply cannot do the trip justice.  We caught fish, saw bears feeding on salmon from the stream and frolic with their cubs, watch whales and just thoroughly enjoyed the bliss of nature at its finest.... please enjoy the pix and don't miss this glorious state up north - its a wonder to behold!
