Thomas Edison – Father of Inventions

2017-08-12T15:49:05-04:00Monday, September 5, 2016|

The father of invention and innovation!   Be courageous. I have seen many depressions in business. Always America has emerged from these stronger and more prosperous. Be brave as your fathers before you. Have faith! Go forward!   Being busy does not always mean real work. The object of all work is production or accomplishment and to either of these ends there must be forethought, system, planning, intelligence, and honest purpose, as well as perspiration. Seeming to do is not doing.   Discontent is the first necessity of progress.   Everything comes to him who hustles while he waits.   Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.   Great ideas originate in the muscles.   Hell, there are no rules here - we're trying to accomplish something.   His genius he was quite content in one brief sentence to define; Of inspiration one percent, of perspiration, ninety nine.   I am proud of the fact that I never invented weapons to kill.   I find my greatest pleasure, and so my reward, in the work that precedes what the world calls success.   I have friends in overalls whose friendship I would not swap for the favor of [...]

Launching Forbes Factor

2017-08-12T15:49:05-04:00Sunday, September 4, 2016|Tags: , , , |

When we first purchased the building that was to become the Forbes Riley production studios it was a bit of a gamble and leap of faith into the unknown.   My husband and I had longed talked about creating a space where I could perform, or film, or hold classes but with the launch of our fitness company SpinGym my focus was split and then we also had 2 twin toddlers.   We purchased the building and began the buildout with the back half being the "studio" and the front half being office and the coolest conference room I could imagine - its round, white, with a wall painted as a white board.  It turned out better than I could imagined. Then what to do with it -- luckily I had some amazing girlfriends who came to my rescue - in particular were Daphne Street and Leslie Belcher.  Over lunch I outlined this dream I had to teach and coach and transform the lives of people (okay, specifically women) but I was open.  Within months of talking about this vision we created to completely unique and amazing programs.  The first was Forbes Factor - an interactive one day, life [...]

So WHO is Forbes Riley?

2017-08-12T15:49:05-04:00Friday, September 2, 2016|Tags: , , , |

If you look up in the dictionary the words “perseverance and determination”, there is a picture of Forbes Riley.  As a little girl she overcame a disfiguring accident, having her mother being held hostage by gunpoint in her home, and a tragic accident that landed her father in the hospital for over 3 years while she was a teenager.  While most young girls in her position might have thrown in the towel, Forbes learned early on the power of forging ahead, even when there is no end in sight and everyone tells you it’s not possible.  Another major obstacle Forbes fought was her weight – now to most people that’s a typical struggle, but when you have dreams of being a Broadway dancer and actress it became monumental.  She worked in spite of hurtful comments and rejection and acted in TV (24, The Practice), movies, hosted TV shows (ESPN’s X-Games, her own talk show on TLC, and a series for ABC Family.  Finally, after two decades of humiliation she managed to turn her weight and eating around when at age 42 she gave birth to 7-pound twins and co-hosted the Jack Lalanne Juicer infomercial, which aired worldwide for 8 [...]

It is amazing to me how time flies -- the summer vacation flew by, I'll sneeze and it will be Christmas.  I am just taking a quiet reflect on the choices I've made - some good, some not so.  This summer I took the twins out west to a Dude Ranch in southern Colorado.  I'm grateful I remember to make the time, create the memories and take the photos!  thanks for letting me share --

Power of the Handshake

2017-08-12T15:49:07-04:00Sunday, August 21, 2016|

What your handshake says about you! As a golden rule, though, a good handshake—one that won’t strike us as being too weird, anyway, or leave us ruminating on it a decade later—is like Goldilocks’s favorite bed: not too soft, not too hard, but just right. Yet, although we may strive to make changes to our signature style, it may be that we’ve little control over the type of handshake that comes most easily to us.   https://www.facebook.com/100k-Handshake-Keys-to-Entrepreneurial-Success-653622938142436/?fref=ts

10 Networking Tips

2016-10-21T17:00:27-04:00Sunday, August 21, 2016|

10 Tips for Successful Networking Networking and Follow-Thru is the true key to relationship building and ultimate success in business. Networking is about being genuine and authentic, building trust and relationships, and seeing how you can help others. When in comes to Networking Groups - Ask yourself what your goals are in participating in networking meetings so that you will pick groups that will help you get what you are looking for. Some meetings are based more on learning, making contacts, and/or volunteering rather than on strictly making business connections. Rule # 1 - Visit as many groups as possible that spark your interest. Notice the tone and attitude of the group. Do the people sound supportive of one another? Does the leadership appear competent? Many groups will allow you to visit two times before joining. Hold volunteer positions in organizations. This is a great way to stay visible and give back to groups that have helped you. Ask open-ended questions in networking conversations. This means questions that ask who, what, where, when, and how as opposed to those that can be answered with a simple yes or no. This form of questioning opens up the discussion and shows listeners [...]

Great Skin

10 Things Women With Perfect Skin Do Every Day! Waking up flawless is all in a few key steps. 1. Uses cleanser for your skin type. For oily or acne prone skin, a salycylic gel or benzoyl peroxide wash works great, For dry mature skin, use either a moisturizing glycolic or milky cleanser. For skin with brown spots or melasma, use a brightening wash, such as an alpha hydroxy acid cleanser. 2. Go GREEN Though it's tempting to grab a coffee the minute you wake up choosing the right beverages can be a game changer. Drink a shot of chlorophyll every morning to brighten, oxygenate, and hydrate your skin. Drinking chlorophyll also helps drain puffiness by stimulating the lymphatic system, so it's also good for cellulite." 3. Maintains a healthy diet. Your skin has a natural barrier to retain moisture, and essential to that is omega-3 fatty acid. Flax seeds on your salad or even walnuts will be an instant boost to your omega-3, thus increasing your skin's ability to hold onto moisture. And be sure to eat a diet low in foods with a high glycemic index 4. Moisturizes every day and night. The best times to moisturize are [...]

Flying Trapeze

2017-08-12T15:49:07-04:00Friday, August 5, 2016|

As many of you know, I spent the better part of my 20's working at Club Med's all inclusive resorts around the world.  By far one of the best things I learned and perhaps a reason to choose Club Med - is definitely the Flying Trapeze! The Circus Team Cancun goes far beyond the limit in making you learn, progress and achieve things which were unimaginable to you before - all in a super friendly easy going way. We get to perform nearly every night - and their circus shows are absolutely breathtaking!!! With the exception of me many of the instructors are incredible aerial gymnasts - their performances are highly professional! For me - it was sheer joy and an experience to never forget!

2017-08-12T15:49:08-04:00Tuesday, July 5, 2016|Tags: , , , |

I've hosted a lot of infomercials in my time, but this was by far one of my ALL time favorites - Why? I got to include my whole family for the very first time.  The product was a frozen food home delivery company (they shall remain nameless as the show tested well and they decided NOT to roll it out because (as I was told) they did n't want to grow the business that fast -- go figure! The pictures say it all and I'm sorry the world didn't get to enjoy this show - it was a true sit-com!

Be Fearless

2017-08-12T15:49:09-04:00Tuesday, July 5, 2016|

We all have fear – but its important to REDEFINE - False Evidence Appearing Real! Overcoming fear requires a growth mindset; an attitude that we can grow and change if we choose. Nothing is “locked in” forever; we can change.  It takes time and practice.  Hopefully these tips will help you begin your journey to ditch fear. Here’s how you can start overcoming fear: 1. Look within. What is the root of your fear? Meditate on it. Look inside and ask yourself when the fear started: How far back does your fear go? Did you have an early failure that has stuck with you?  Explore it. 2. Be aware of fear in your life. Before you can begin overcoming fear, you have to admit that you have it. Perhaps fear is your “normal” state of being, and that is quite a bit to overcome all at once.  Write down some aspects of your life where have fear;  getting them down on paper is important, because trying to simply think them through never works. 3. Adopt a mindset of gratitude. Whenever you feel fear, try to feel grateful instead. I have been performing a lot of solos recently, and it is scary!  Instead of freaking [...]
